When Hurricane Helene ripped through six states last year, options for emergency response challenged agencies tasked with helping residents of affected communities.
From Florida to North Carolina, however, helicopters provided critical support in relief efforts. In North Carolina, 26 helicopters and their volunteer pilots touched down at Hickory Regional Airport just days after the hurricane. Helicopter pilots and crew members delivered supplies and airlifted stranded residents to safety long after the hurricane had passed.
In Florida, a crew from the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater rescued a man and his dog off Sanibel Island after his boat became disabled in the ocean ahead of the storm. Ted Hudson, a member of the Coast Guard, descended from the helicopter in 60 MPH winds and rescued the dog and the owner. All three were lifted to safety in the helicopter. “I didn’t think about it,’’ Hudson said in an interview with CNN. “I just swam over to the boat and wanted to get it done as soon as possible.”
Both examples demonstrate the escalating importance of helicopters and vertical lift aircraft, which are expected to grow by nearly 55 percent between 2024 and 2030.
Trends in the eVTOL (electrical vertical take-off and landing) industry will be discussed at several trade shows throughout 2025, and Alpha Metalcraft Group will be attending them.
The first is the Transformative Vertical Flight trade show from Feb. 4-6 at the Phoenix Convention Center. The 12th annual Electric VTOL symposium will also be part of the trade show.
The event will feature speakers from NASA, the Federal Aviation Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The trade show is organized by the Vertical Flight Society, and is the world’s only technical society for engineers, scientists and others working to advance vertical flight technology. The VFS brings together industry, academia and government to tackle the toughest challenges in vertical flight.
AMG will also attend the Vertical Flight Society’s 81st forum and technology display, which is scheduled from May 20-22 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
AMG will be showcasing its technology at Verticon, scheduled for March 11-13 in Dallas, and the 55th International Paris Air Show from June 16-20.
Verticon, formerly the HAI Heli-Expo, is the world’s largest vertical aviation conference and trade show. The event features more than 600 visitors with more than 15,000 attendees from 85-plus countries. The event features sessions on education and safety.
The Paris Air Show brings together stakeholders from around the world and includes 2,500 exhibitors from 48 nations. There are more than 200 flying displays that showcase the latest innovations and key players in the aerospace sector.
AMG has deep experience working with OEM and Tier 1 aerospace customers to meet exacting specifications to provide high precision and top-quality components. With its capabilities in electroforming, deep drawing, CNC machining, welding and more, AMG combines more than 200 years of experience to support the global aerospace industry.
